Meeting European Union Ministers of Tourism

European Union

1 Mar 2021

European Union Ministers of Tourism meet, this 1st of March, in an extraordinary virtual meeting.

This initiative, under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, was not initially scheduled, but Portugal has identified it as a priority in order to debate the current status of Tourism in European Union, the preparation of the next Spring/ Summer season and the financial and social recovery of the sector.

The common effort of the European Union recovery supported by vaccination campaigns occurring in all Member States as well as the coordinated approach to the restriction of free movement will be taken into consideration by Member States as essential steps on the road to recovery and rebuild of the Tourism sector, one of the most affected by the pandemic.

The context in which this extraordinary meeting takes place is, according to Secretary of State for Tourism, Rita Marques, a unique opportunity to recover and rebuild the tourism ecosystem in Europe. Thus, even though triggered by such a dramatic crisis, it is a real opportunity to reinvent the tourism sector of tomorrow.
