Supported by Turismo de Portugal, within the scope of the Portugal Events programme, the world's largest meeting of explorers, pioneers, scientists and researchers is returning to Portugal on July 2nd, organized by Expanding World, with the seal and curatorship of the oldest and most prestigious association of leaders in the exploration of the planet, "The Explorers Club of New York".
With two editions already held in Portugal, 2019 and 2021, the 2022 edition of GLEX has the strategic objective of promoting the Portuguese "Space Port", located on the island of Santa Maria, in the Azores, promoting a future product of strategic space tourism for the country and Europe.
One of the big news of this edition is the inclusion of an extra date in Lisbon, through the GLEX Ignition Session, on July 2nd. An unprecedented moment and totally dedicated to space exploration, as a prelude to the general program, which this year will take place in the Azores, between the 4th and 7th of July, in a hybrid model, in person and online for the whole world, with the aim of marking the end of the commemorations of the 500th anniversary of Magellan's circumnavigation.
From the terrestrial oceans to the cosmic oceans, the first day of the GLEX Summit 2022 will be about the future of space exploration, both in terms of science and the space economy - whose industry is today valued at more than 350 billion dollars -, bringing together a set of experts from around the world, namelly James B. Garvin, NASA's chief scientist and current leader of the DAVINCI+ mission, which is heading towards the planet Venus. Although closed to the public, it will be broadcasted in live streaming, to the entire world.
From the 4th to the 7th of July, Teatro o Micaelense, in Ponta Delgada, Azores, will host the main program of this edition. These will be four days dedicated to everything that happens beyond the limits of land, oceans and space, where the world's elite of explorers, scientists and researchers, from the most varied areas of knowledge, will share with the public the most recent discoveries, the most innovative technologies and the new and future missions that promise to revolutionize the future of humanity.
The GLEX Summit Portugal 2022 will feature the participation of more than 50 explorers, pioneers, scientists and researchers from five continents. Celebrating an epochal change in exploration, "What's Next?" will be the motto of this edition and the inspiring motto of the various sessions, in which cutting-edge technologies and innovations that are paving the way to a new era of exploration and shaping the future of Humanity will be shared.
