The tourism promotion portal, www.visitportugal.com proposes activities and suggestions in accordance with the motivations of each tourist together with all information necessary in order to plan and make a trip to Portugal.
Launched in November 2004, the portal has been built on an innovative technological platform provided by Microsoft, with the capacity to segment and profile information. As a result, a different portal may be offered to each visitor in accordance with his country of origin, profile or browsing preferences. Using a decision engine, incorporating content and interconnected via keywords, it is possible to parameterise the portal on a country by country basis at any moment in time.
Users have access to two types of content in nine languages – Portuguese, English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Russian and Japanese. In terms of promotion there are around 700 texts offering Activities and Suggestions in order to get to know Portugal, distributed across seven regional destinations and 12 experiences. In terms of information, it is possible to search a national database including 10,000 georeferenced facilities.
Tourists can also use various other functions - such as the Planning area from which it is possible to send SMS, download and make online orders of brochures and maps, videocasts, subscribe to the Newsletter, online competitions, access a PDA version of the portal, and request information - a service enabled by the Contact Centre.
With constant updating of content and technological evolution, Visitportugal recorded in 2008: 15.6 million visits, 39 million page views, 3.5 million searches.
