Meeting of Directors-General for Tourism

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​During the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, under the coordination of Ministry of Economy and Digital Transition, takes place on a virtual platform, on the 8th of March​, the Meeting of Directors-General for Tourism.

The main theme of the Meeting​ of Directors-General for Tourism is digital transition in tourism sector. From the question What can the EU do? representatives of the Tourism Authorities from the 27 Member States of the European Union discuss common challenges and opportunities of the tourism sector recovery through digital transition in order to enhance a more resilient, competitive and sustainable tourism.

During the morning period, occurs the virtual event Big Data enabling Tourism competitiveness that precedes the Meeting​ of Directors-General for Tourism. This event gathers statistics experts, international organizations and tourism professionals to discuss the role of data in restoring tourism industry competitiveness, with a particular focus on the potential use of big data sources. Event conclusions will be presented in the afternoon during the Meeting​ of Directors-General for Tourism.

In the afternoon, within the Meeting​ of Directors-General for Tourism, takes place a debate on European Tourism Innovation Ecosystem: best practices that aims to discuss innovation as an essential capacity to boost the competitiveness and adaptability of European tourism sector, in a digital era.
