Portugal has once again been honoured as the World's Best Golf Destination at the 12th edition of the World Golf Awards. The official announcement, made today, 13 November, also reaffirms Portugal as the ‘Best Golf Destination in Europe’ for the fourth consecutive year.
This double honour consolidates the excellence of golf tourism in Portugal. Portugal currently has 89 golf courses spread across the seven tourism regions, with a particular focus on the Algarve, Lisbon, Porto and the North.
Commitment to the environment is a determining factor in Portugal's success in this area. The Portuguese golf sector is actively implementing responsible practices to preserve the resources that characterise the destination, including strategies for the efficient management of water, energy, waste and the reduction of plastics.
The World Golf Awards are voted for by golf industry professionals, the media and consumers from all over the world. This award recognises Portugal's commitment to excellence and brings the country together with an exclusive community of the best golf tourism organisations. The awards are part of the World Travel Awards, considered the “Oscars” of the tourism sector.
