In this parallel event to the United Nations Ocean Conference, which takes place in Lisbon, between the 27th of June and the 1st of July, Turismo de Portugal, the World Surf League (WSL), MEO and EDP come together to highlight the role of surfing in protecting the oceans and showing how the entire ecosystem that involves companies, athletes and institutions can be mobilized around this goal.
In yet another contribution to the discussion on the need for innovation and technology with the aim of boosting industries towards a sustainable transition (economic, environmental and social), this initiative aims to show how surfing, a sport linked to the Ocean, can and should lead their protection, setting goals and creating communication anchors that allow communities and partners to be mobilized, thus actively contributing to goals 14 and 17 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The event takes place on the 29th of June, at TBC Jardim da Música – Expo, Lisbon, with the presentation of projects scheduled:
_ Unwanted Shapes – Zero Impact, Full Performance – which seeks that by the 2028 Olympic Games, the entire surfing industry will be using boards made of material with no environmental impact;
_ Surf For Tomorrow - which aims to train the new generation of surfers and develop their talent with a reinforced commitment to the protection of the ocean, creating a generation of surfers more responsible and aware of the need to implement a regenerative approach to the marine ecosystem.
The Minister of Economy and the Sea, António Costa Silva and the President of Turismo de Portugal, Luís Araújo, will attend this event.
