In 2026, the New 7 Wonders of Portugal® project returns with the support of VisitPortugal, reinforcing its commitment to promoting and enhancing Portuguese built heritage.
This nationwide initiative, which marks 20 years since the creation of the 7 Wonders of Portugal®, once again puts the Portuguese people at the centre of the decision-making process, through the popular vote to elect the most notable examples of the country's built heritage.
With heritage as its central theme, this edition highlights Portugal's historical, cultural and architectural diversity, promoting the mobilisation of the population and encouraging recognition and pride in local traditions, values and communities. Public nominations opened on 17 December 2025 and will run until the end of February 2026, with each nomination able to include up to seven heritage sites.

This structure aims to ensure a comprehensive and representative overview of the built heritage accumulated over the centuries. The competition will take place in several successive stages: submission of applications, technical selection by a panel of experts, regional heats and final selection of a winner for each category.
The election will be accompanied by a large-scale television operation, including weekly programmes broadcast on Saturdays between April and July, a semi-final and the National Grand Final, scheduled for 18 July. This approach guarantees extensive media coverage, strong public involvement and national mobilisation.
The New 7 Wonders of Portugal® is a project affiliated with and recognised by the New 7 Wonders Foundation. The entire application and voting process is audited by PwC and developed in partnership with TVI and the Media Capital Group.
