The term of the “O Turismo Acolhe” programme has been extended until 31 March 2026, reinforcing the temporary accommodation response for people affected by the storms that hit Portugal last month. The measure is based on the voluntary mobilisation of tourist accommodation companies, which provide free stays for beneficiaries.
The decision to extend the programme stems from the fact that the conditions that led to its creation remain unchanged, as well as the continuing need for temporary accommodation, both for displaced populations and for workers involved in recovery operations in the affected areas. In a preliminary assessment, based on currently available data, the programme has already provided at least 250 nights of accommodation to more than 80 people, including displaced persons and professionals in the field.
The programme will remain in force until 31 March 2026 and may be extended depending on developments on the ground.
Turismo de Portugal is responsible for managing the programme, paying participating companies that opt for financial support, and monitoring its correct implementation, in coordination with business associations in the sector.
