MEO Kalorama won the title of ‘Most Accessible Festival’ for the second time, having already been recognised in 2023. In 2025, the event once again received the €15,000 prize aimed at improving accessibility conditions. Created by Turismo de Portugal in partnership with the National Institute for Rehabilitation, this award distinguishes festivals that promote inclusion and ensure access to culture for all audiences.
Comprising representatives from Turismo de Portugal, the National Institute for Rehabilitation, the Portuguese Association of Music Festivals (APORFEST), the Directorate-General for the Arts and the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA), the jury unanimously awarded the distinction, highlighting the innovation and scope of the solutions implemented, namely platforms for wheelchair users, vibration areas for deaf people, a break room for people with neurodivergent limitations and non-binary toilet facilities to adequately respond to the needs of people with disabilities and those accompanying them. These measures enable fuller and more independent participation, raising the standard of accessibility at cultural events.
Serralves em Festa (Serralves Foundation), Imaginarius (Municipality of Santa Maria da Feira) and Andanças (PédeXumbo Association) were also recognised for the mobility, comfort, safety and autonomy they provide to the public. The official award ceremony will take place at the Lisbon Tourism Exchange.
The Accessible Festivals programme covers music, theatre, cinema, dance, literature, performing arts and street arts events, promoting a more inclusive and higher quality cultural offering throughout the country. Public or private entities can apply, provided that the events are held regularly or are expected to continue and guarantee adequate accessibility conditions.
