The network of the Turismo de Portugal Tourism and Hospitality Schools has received the TedQual certification from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for a maximum period of three years, covering five courses. Pastry Management and Production and Hospitality Operations Management received their first TedQual certification, while the courses Culinary Arts, Food and Beverage Management, and Tourism Management had their quality certification renewed.
Some of the advantages of this certification include national and international recognition and access to a significant set of studies and specialized information, as well as internationally recognized training, cooperation, and development projects.
With a score of 91.8% (equivalent to 776 points out of 845 possible), the renewal of three courses and the first certification of two new courses reflect the continuous commitment to the educational quality of the network of the Turismo de Portugal Tourism and Hospitality Schools. The process involved necessary self-assessment procedures, followed by evaluation by UNWTO experts through on-site audits that focused on five courses taught in all schools of the network.
In addition to recognizing the quality of education provided by the Turismo de Portugal Tourism and Hospitality Schools, this certification helps promote continuous improvement in tourism education and research, setting a standard of criteria that ensure the quality of the educational projects of the 12 Schools that make up the Turismo de Portugal network.
The audit conducted by UNWTO scrutinized five areas in particular: the coherence of the curriculum, pedagogical conditions (including methodologies and infrastructure), the management of the network and its constituent schools, the faculty, and the suitability of the study program for the needs and future perspectives of the sector.
