VisitPortugal will be in the spotlight at the 2025 edition of the Dalkey Book Festival, one of the most important literary events in Ireland, taking place in the coastal village of Dalkey, Dublin, from 12 to 15 June.
Known for bringing together leading names in international literature and promoting high-quality cultural and intellectual debates, Turismo de Portugal will be working hard to ensure the festival features a comprehensive programme dedicated to our country, combining literature with history, gastronomy and contemporary identity.
The reflection on Portugal's current positioning in the European context will be the focus of a roundtable discussion entitled “Portugal, the New European Tiger?", inspired by Portugal's growing visibility in the fields of culture, urbanism, creative economy and quality of life.
The Carnation Revolution will also be referred to, in a panel that proposes a comparative look at different historical turning points. The debate brings together experts to analyse the consequences of the Portuguese, Irish and Ukrainian revolutions.
The festival will also feature the participation of writer Afonso Cruz, one of the most acclaimed names in contemporary Portuguese literature. Cruz will participate in the roundtable “Books that Changed the World", a discussion on the transformative power of literature in contexts of social and political crisis. His presence will also be an opportunity to showcase the cultural and tourist revitalisation project he has been developing in Sousel, in the Alentejo region, where literature, territory, tourism and community intersect.
The celebration of Portugal at the festival will also be marked by a series of cultural and gastronomic experiences that aim to showcase the flavours and spirit of the country. A Portuguese menu specially designed for the event will be served at the CornerNote Restaurant in Dalkey village centre. The space will also host tastings of Portuguese artisanal snacks and products, as well as musical performances and informal conversations, creating an atmosphere that transports visitors to Portuguese daily life and its art of hospitality.
Portugal's attendance at the festival will enhance the country's image as a vibrant cultural destination, where tradition and contemporaneity intersect with authenticity. Participation at the Dalkey Book Festival will make Portugal more visible to demanding and culturally attentive international audiences, showcasing the best of what is done in the country in the fields of literature, gastronomy and tourism.
