The
Portugal Events Programme incentive system has been reinforced by
Order No. 4/2026/1, of 5 January, which introduces the third amendment to the programme aimed at attracting events that contribute to raising the profile of the regions and the country, in particular by supporting companies, associations and other event organisers.
For the three types of events covered by this decree, the Portugal Events incentive system now has a budget of €45 million to support events between 2026 and 2028, representing an increase of €29 million compared to the previous regulation.
Applicable throughout the national territory (including the autonomous regions), this incentive system, launched by Turismo de Portugal, is intended to support events which, due to their positioning and notoriety, contribute to the creation of territorial dynamics, diversify the tourist experience and consequently spread it out in space and time, boost local economies (particularly in low-density areas) or promote the international profile of the country and its regions.
Events associated with the development of strategic tourism products that, due to their scale, are catalysts for attracting tourists and capable of projecting the image of Portugal, as well as associative events promoted with the aim of presenting and discussing topics included in the scope of action of private or public entities, and corporate events promoted by companies with the aim of conducting communications and work meetings or presenting products or services, whether internal or external.
Local or regional events are presented exclusively by Regional Tourism Entities and Regional Tourism Secretariats, provided that they are included in a single Annual Events Plan, that they contribute to the revitalisation of local economies, attract tourist flows and contribute to promoting the image of the region where they are held.
