From the 2025/2026 school year, Turismo de Portugal will be supporting students at its network of hotel and tourism schools with financial aid to cover accommodation costs. In addition, all students attending one of the 12 schools in the network will also be entitled to free meals. The 2nd phase of applications for the 2025/2026 school year runs until 9 September.
At a time when access to accommodation is becoming increasingly challenging and expensive, Turismo de Portugal has taken on the responsibility of promoting policies that respond to the difficulties faced by students and their families. This support is a determining factor of equity and inclusion and allows more young people to choose one of the 12 Hotel and Tourism Schools without the cost of accommodation being an obstacle, thus contributing to territorial cohesion and access to quality training.
At the same time, free meals are being offered to all students, guaranteeing a diversified and healthy diet, relieving families of this burden and valuing the practical component of hotel schools, where quality food is an integral part of professional training.
// Support for accommodation
This support is monthly and can be up to 50 per cent of the Social Support Index (IAS). It is awarded according to the amount actually paid for accommodation and is aimed at students who:
_ live more than 50 kilometres from the school; or
_ live less than 50 kilometres from the school and do not have transport compatible with the training timetable.
The support does not apply to foreign students without long-term resident status, unless exceptionally authorised.
The measure covers continuing students, those already enrolled in the first phase, which ends on 18 July 2025, and those enrolling in the second phase.
// Formalising the request for support with accommodation costs
Students' requests for this support will be analysed by the respective schools, and it is necessary to submit:
_ Proof of residence;
_ Proof of accommodation costs;
_ Justification of the incompatibility of transport with the training timetable.
With the new conditions, Turismo de Portugal is reinforcing its commitment to professional training in the sector, promoting equal opportunities for all students and ensuring an excellent learning environment that favours academic and professional success.
