Turismo de Portugal is taking part in the European campaign “Tourism for Europe”, organised by the ETC – European Travel Commission, a European body of which Portugal is a member, which aims to highlight the positive contribution of tourism to European regions, communities and local economies by promoting best practices in regenerative tourism.

The initiative forms part of the work carried out by the ETC’s Chapter Earth group, in which Turismo de Portugal participates, and includes a new digital platform dedicated to promoting best practices implemented in European destinations: Tourism For Europe

The platform, which was pre-launched on 31 March, brings together examples of projects and initiatives that help to regenerate areas, support local communities, restore nature and create economic and social value in a sustainable way. In the initial phase, best practices previously identified by the ETC were made available, including one representative example per country.

The official launch of the platform and the associated campaign took place on 9 May, marking Europe Day. In this new phase, new best practices submitted by ETC members will be incorporated, including Portuguese projects presented by Turismo de Portugal, which will be highlighted as part of the campaign, namely:

_ Rede Mulheres Guardiãs da Natureza | Women Guardians of Nature Network
_ Rede Portuguesa de Turismo Industrial  Portuguese Industrial Tourism Network
_ Programa REVIVE | REVIVE Programme
_ Biovilla (identified by ETC, in the pre-launch phase)

The “Tourism for Europe” campaign builds on the work carried out by the ETC as part of an exhibition held at the European Parliament earlier this year and aims to highlight the positive contribution of tourism to local areas, communities and economies, whilst promoting more responsible and sustainable development models across Europe.
