Turismo de Portugal and the NOVA University of Lisbon (Universidade Nova de Lisboa - UNL) have signed a cooperation protocol with the aim of promoting Portugal and Portuguese culture, at the "NOVA Cairo" Campus, which is now fully operational with the teaching of a pre-university year.

In the framework of the agreement established, Turismo de Portugal will develop actions to welcome the students in Portuguese territory, namely summer courses in the Schools of Turismo de Portugal, which, within NOVA Cairo's pre-university year, will provide cultural immersion activities in Portugal.

It will also provide support in recruiting teachers for the Portuguese Culture module, as well as in developing activities linked to Portugal and Portuguese culture, namely cultural and gastronomic events, Career Development weeks, internships to be carried out in Portugal, student exchanges, participation in innovation and entrepreneurship activities, among others.

In line with the remit of Turismo de Portugal within the scope of the external promotion of Portugal, as well as the internationalisation of the training provided by its network of Schools of Hospitality and Tourism, and considering the pressing need to enhance the tourism professions and develop courses and training programmes that meet the needs of the market, the cooperation between both entities is particularly relevant.

The Schools of Turismo de Portugal are a reference in vocational training in tourism. Their focus on people and talent has been one of their priorities for action, training over 3,000 students per year and simultaneously qualifying around 7,500 tourism professionals with on-the-job training. They are a unique network in the world, internationally recognised, awarded and certified by the World Tourism Organisation. In addition to training, they promote innovation and entrepreneurship, providing technical conditions and specialised knowledge, which they place at the service of small and very small businesses in the sector, ultimately contributing to the competitiveness and quality of service provided by agents of the sector, aiming at a growing prestige of the tourism professions.
