Turismo de Portugal (TP) and Angola's Gabinete de Apoio ao Turista, Formação e Empreendedorismo (Tourist Support, Training and Entrepreneurship Office) have signed a protocol that begins a new phase in the internationalisation of TP's network of schools, as it represents the first shared management initiative for hotel and tourism schools abroad carried out in conjunction with a counterpart.
Investing in qualifications, valuing professions, attracting and retaining talent, empowering companies and equipping professionals with the skills to act responsibly, sustainably and competitively are essential goals covered by the protocol. The collaboration between Turismo de Portugal and the Tourist Support, Training and Entrepreneurship Office includes support for the implementation of a management model for a Hotel and Tourism School, configured as Hotel and Tourism Schools Co-branded with Turismo de Portugal.
This reinforces Turismo de Portugal's internationalisation strategy for its network of schools, which largely involves expansion into the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), through the transfer of knowledge held by Turismo de Portugal and recognised by UN Tourism. The agreement highlights the important role that people and tourism professionals play in tourism, investing in their qualifications, in valuing professions and in attracting and retaining talent, thereby raising the quality and excellence of training in the sector.
Thanks to this partnership, two new hotel schools will be opened in Angola, one in 2024 in Cabinda Province and the other in 2025 in Luanda, with a view to improving the quality of tourist services in the country. The next steps include meetings with the team from Turismo de Portugal's Directorate-General for Capacity Building and Cooperation (DGCC) to define the points of collaboration in the new Cabinda Hotel and Tourism School, including protocols and joint management models.
