Today, Turismo de Portugal awarded 248 tourism companies with the ‘Sustainability Engaged’ seal, recognising their commitment to adopting sustainable practices. The ceremony took place at the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon and was attended by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Trade and Services, Pedro Machado, and the President of Turismo de Portugal, Carlos Abade.
This recognition is part of the Empresas Turismo 360 Programme (PET 360) and the Sustainability Engaged seal highlights the commitment of companies to integrating environmental, social and governance measures, reported through the Organisational and Sustainability Reporting Tool for Tourism (FOREST), which allows progress to be identified and the sustainable performance of tourism activities to be improved.
Among the companies recognised today are 17 business groups and 26 companies with several operating units.
In total, the 248 companies recognised today cover around 450 reporting units, assessed through ESG questionnaires, as well as additional reports on greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity and climate risks.
During the session, there was also an opportunity to hear ‘the voice of businesses’ at a round table where two micro-enterprises and a business group shared their experiences and discussed the concrete benefits of using the new reporting model.
The Empresas Turismo 360 Programme thus aims to encourage responsible practices in the environmental, social and governance pillars, promoting better conditions for access to financing, efficiency gains and more robust economic performance.
The initiative is part of Turismo de Portugal's strategic axes to position the country among the most competitive and sustainable tourist destinations globally.
