UN Tourism has launched the
Malta Urban Heat Mitigation Challenge, an international initiative aimed at identifying innovative and scalable solutions to
mitigate the impact of urban heat in tourist destinations, thereby strengthening resilience to climate change.
The challenge is aimed at start-ups, entrepreneurs, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, academic institutions, local authorities, innovation hubs and public bodies, encouraging the submission of projects applicable to urban tourism contexts. The initiative forms part of UN Tourism’s strategy to promote innovation as a response to the sector’s global challenges, particularly in the areas of sustainability and climate resilience.
The selected projects will have the opportunity to present their solutions at the final event, which will take place in Malta on 12 May 2026, as well as join the UN Tourism Global Innovation Network and benefit from international visibility amongst the organisation’s members.
The deadline for submitting applications is 17 April 2026.
