The CPLP UNESCO Global Geoparks Network has announced the winners of the 1st CPLP UNESCO Global Geoparks Photography Competition, an initiative forming part of the programme for the 1st CPLP UNESCO Global Geoparks Forum.
The aim of the competition was to highlight the natural, cultural and human diversity of the territories within this international network, through the capture of images representative of the CPLP UNESCO Global Geoparks, located in Portugal and Brazil. The initiative attracted 107 participants and 263 photographs taken in the CPLP UNESCO Global Geoparks, in the categories of Geodiversity, Biodiversity, and People, Lifestyles and Traditions.
The photographs submitted highlight the geological, environmental, cultural and human richness of these regions, helping to raise their profile and promote them internationally. Turismo de Portugal was part of the competition jury, alongside representatives from the Portuguese and Brazilian Geoparks and the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism.
The winning photographs and honourable mentions will form part of an exhibition on display in the Cloisters of Arouca Monastery, between 27 and 30 May 2026, as part of the 1st UNESCO World Geoparks Forum of the CPLP.
The Network is an initiative aimed at contributing to the implementation of UNESCO Global Geoparks in CPLP countries, as destinations of excellence for tourism, centres for education and scientific research, and territories committed to the protection and enhancement of their geological heritage, where sustainable development is driven by geotourism and the promotion of services and products that reflect the identity of each territory.
