Portugal was distinguished in 12 categories as the best in the world at the awards gala of the 29th edition of the World Travel Awards, held Friday in Oman. Porto, Lisbon and Madeira were considered the Best City Destination, the Best Metropolitan Seaside Destination and the Best Island Destination, respectively.
But a number of other distinctions were won by national hotels, companies and projects:

_ Best Airline for Africa – TAP Air Portugal
_ Best Airline for South America – TAP Air Portugal
_ Best Classic Hotel – Olissipo Lapa Palace Hotel
_ Best Conservation Company – Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua
_ Best Golf & Villa Resort- Dunas Douradas Beach Club
_ Best Luxury Business Hotel – Pestana Palace Hotel
_ Best Responsible Tourism Project – Dark Sky Alqueva
_ Best Boutique Hotel Operator – Amazing Evolution
Considered the "Oscars" of tourism, the World Travel Awards have been given by tourism professionals on a global scale since 1993, honouring the work done in the tourism industry to stimulate competitiveness and quality in tourism.
