Reactivate Tourism. Build the Future Action Plan

24.07.2023

Fostering safety, the second priority of the Reactivate Tourism | Build the Future Action Plan, is to create conditions that will strengthen confidence in tourism by companies, tourists and residents, as well as in the ability of this activity to contribute significantly to well-being and to improving their quality of life.

We need to be aware of the (new) needs of tourists and prepare companies for them by encouraging safety behaviours, both in the activity and in the behaviour of those working in the sector.

// TOURISM ACTIVITY

The pandemic has created new needs on the demand side, very focused on health issues and responding to personal safety at the destination. It is therefore essential to take into account these (new) needs of tourists and prepare companies for them, transfer knowledge and stimulate communication with the aim of increasing safety by companies, both in the activity and in the behaviour of those working in the sector.

In this case, the following are highlighted:

_ Clean & Safe 2.0 Seal
The Clean & Safe seal was created in April 2020 by Turismo de Portugal, I. P., with the aim of supporting companies in identifying the measures to be adopted to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthen confidence in Portugal as a tourist destination, whether by tourists - national and foreign -, company employees, or the population in general. More than 22,000 companies have joined, from areas and activities covering tourist developments and local accommodation, including tourist entertainment companies, restaurants, travel and tourism agencies, event organisers, spas, rent-a-car, as well as tourist offices, golf courses, museums, palaces, monuments and archaeological sites, libraries, Live Science centres, geoparks, entertainment venues, casinos and bingos, motorhome service areas and airports.

_ Seamless Travel Programme
The COVID-19 pandemic has posed new challenges in the relationship with the tourist/consumer that favours informality and fluidity, to the benefit of greater security that is guaranteed through more agile, more sustainable and dematerialised forms of contact. It reflects a commitment to digital and is composed of several initiatives aimed at making the experience of those who visit us even more fluid in terms of circulation, payments, information and knowledge.

_ Adaptar 2.0 Programme (Adapting Programme)
To evolve the Adapting 2.0 Programme in order to respond, at the present time, to new specific needs of companies in the tourism sector, very much aimed at maintaining the business and allowing them to be sustainable in the recovery. ADAPTING 2.0 will provide a financial response to the need to improve, modify and resize spaces, favouring the safety and well-being of consumers/tourists, such as infrastructure for new outdoor spaces.
