For the fourth consecutive year, students from Turismo de Portugal schools are participating in the international competition Tasting & Sharing, dedicated to Icelandic cod. The international competition will be held simultaneously in Portugal, Spain and Italy.
The competition is being organised by Íslandstofa, an Icelandic government institution responsible for the internationalisation of business and which has the support of Turismo de Portugal.
The Portuguese final will take place on 1 April 2025 at the Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo do Oeste (West Portugal School of Hospitality and Tourism) in Caldas da Rainha. Working in partnership with Turismo de Portugal, 11 hospitality and tourism schools will be competing in this final: Faro, Vila Real de Santo António, Portimão, Lisbon, Setúbal, Portalegre, Oeste, Lamego, Coimbra, Viana do Castelo and Porto.
The finalists, selected by means of internal competitions held at each school, will present their final dish, made with Icelandic cod. The three best dishes will be chosen by a jury consisting of:
_ Chef Marlene Vieira, a former student of Turismo de Portugal’s schools and winner of a Michelin star in 2025
_ Icelandic Chef Isak Aron
_Influencer Miguel Telles
The prize for the winner and their teacher will be a trip to Iceland, where they will present the winning dish to Icelandic chefs and the Icelandic media, as well as having the opportunity to visit Icelandic fishing villages and places where cod is prepared for export.
