The Michelin Guide’s 2025 selection, fully dedicated to Portugal and revealed this week in Porto, awarded eight new stars and one more green star, bringing the total to 46 Michelin-starred restaurants, of which 38 have one star and 8 have two. The Michelin selection was further expanded by an additional 35 recommended and five more Bib Gourmand restaurants, resulting in a total of 144 establishments in these two categories.
The new selection of the Michelin Guide Portugal is marked by the consolidation of established chefs, greater diversity, the recognition of a generation of young chefs, the strengthening of proposals associated with hospitality, and greater regional representation.
Portuguese cuisine has been making a name for itself thanks to its authenticity, creativity and quality, allowing for a diverse and unique experience, whether in a tavern, a traditional restaurant or a fine dining establishment.
This is a consistent path towards recognition of Portuguese cuisine, which we hope will be reinforced, with ambition and greater qualifications to reach new levels of excellence and international recognition. Cuisine plays an important role in preserving our cultural heritage and traditions and in keeping them relevant in today's world, in innovation and environmental regeneration. Reinforcing a culinary culture and boosting the international reputation of our flavours bring all agents of Portuguese cuisine together in striving for a common goal.
These awards from the Michelin Guide Portugal represent a strong boost in the internationalisation of Portuguese cuisine, contributing to the Portugal’s competitiveness as a tourist destination. They have a direct impact on the recognition, international value and importance of gastronomy as a tourist asset and in creating wealth for regions and the national economy.
