On 27 February 2024, in
Albufeira, the first Michelin gala will take place, exclusively celebrating the best of Portuguese gastronomy. After more than 100 years of existence of the prestigious Michelin Guide, the much sought-after
autonomy and prominence of Portuguese gastronomy and haute cuisine will become a reality.
The news was announced at a press conference attended by Luís Araujo, President of Turismo de Portugal, João Fernandes, President of the Regional Tourism Entity of the Algarve and Nuno Ferreira, representative of Michelin Spain & Portugal, which took place at the Algarve Hotel Industry and Tourism School in Faro. The event's coordinating chefs were also presented: Rui Silvestre from Vistas Rui Silvestre restaurant in Vila Real de Santo António (1 MICHELIN star); and Dieter Koshina from Vila Joya restaurant in Albufeira (2 MICHELIN stars).
The Michelin Guide is a world reference in the area of gastronomy, present on 4 continents and in 40 countries. This association between Visit Portugal and the Michelin brand contributes to greater awareness of Portugal among tourists who travel having gastronomy as their motivation and the Michelin seal of excellence as a guide.
The gala, which will take place at the NAU Salgados Palace, will be a unique moment to celebrate national and regional gastronomy. In parallel, a communication campaign will be developed about the destination that will highlight the specificities of national and Algarve gastronomy, culminating in the event, which last edition impacted more than 13 million people in Spain alone.
This event confirms the growing appreciation of gastronomy in Portugal, and this Guide, as a result of its prestige and notoriety (present in 4 continents and 40 countries), will be another contribution to the projection of Portugal as a differentiated tourist destination that offers unique experiences.
