VisitPortugal will be in the spotlight at
Taste of London, the biggest food festival in the United Kingdom, which will take place between 14 and 18 June, at Regent's Park, where there will be cooking classes and wine tastings of the different regions of the country. Participation in this event, where 55,000 people are expected, aims to consolidate our country as a differentiated gastronomic destination that offers unique experiences.
In an area of approximately 500 m2, visitors will be able to enjoy an immersive experience in the food and wines of Portugal, taking part in classes in the “Flames of Portugal” space with chefs Henrique Sá Pessoa, who opened the JOIA restaurant in London in February, Nuno Mendes, who opened the 'Lisboeta' also in the British capital in 2022, and Vasco Coelho Santos, Alexandre Silva and Ana Moura and in the wine tastings.
The Turismo de Portugal Schools will also participate in the event, with trainers and students from the Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo do Porto (Porto School of Hospitality and Tourism), also promoting Portugal as the reference destination to study and work in the tourism sector.
The United Kingdom is the main issuing market in overnight stays to Portugal. In March of this year, it already recorded an 8.9% increase in overnight stays compared to 2019, according to the National Statistics Institute. This growth is relevant considering that it surpasses the record numbers recorded four years ago, before the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, in a low season month.
Turismo de Portugal has been developing various partnerships in this market to increase the country's visibility, focusing on food, literature and wine tourism as differentiating factors. An example of this was last year's participation in the FT Weekend Festival, in London, under the theme - Be Inspired by Visit Portugal - an event where the most creative minds organise debates, talks and show-cooking under the motto Where curious minds meet.
