Policies and strategy

10.05.2023

Valuing the territory, investing in companies, qualifying professionals and projecting the inland territory and its supply are the priorities of the Tourism Agenda for the Inland Territory, which has an allocation of 200 million euros. The action instruments and measures were presented yesterday, in Covilhã, by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Trade and Services, Nuno Fazenda.

The document, which results from the consultation of the main tourism agents of the inland municipalities, aims to stimulate the catalyst effect of tourism and to strengthen the differentiation of these territories with concrete and targeted incentives. In a work that is intended to be open, participative and under continuous construction, the objective is, therefore, to make tourism in the inland territory a factor of development and cohesion. Thus, interventions are planned at the level of public policies on tourism, together with wealth-generating companies and the population, professionals and tourists.

Key measures include:

// 15 million euros for +Inland Tourism Microcredit that aims at the creation, growth/expansion of businesses for micro and SMEs, and includes an interest-free loan, with an associated performance premium of up to 30% of the non-refundable grant granted.

// 25% increase in the support assigned to Portugal Events to stimulate the holding of events in the inland territory.

Simultaneously, specific campaigns for the inland territory are planned, in the national and international markets, in order to mobilise operators, institutions and the community. “Travel through the inland territory" (Viaja pelo teu interior) is the motto for a participative campaign that can be adapted to each territory and its specific supply, in articulation with the VisitPortugal brand.
