Portugal is promoted in the UK with record number of participating companies

Tourism trade fairs

07.11.2022

Portugal will be present at the World Travel Market, the largest British tourism fair and one of the most important worldwide, to be held from 7 to 9 November in London. The national participation, the largest ever in this fair, is coordinated by Turismo de Portugal and includes 92 companies and the seven Regional Tourism Promotion Agencies (Porto and North, Central Portugal, Lisbon, Alentejo, Algarve, Madeira and Azores), which occupy a stand of 814 square meters dedicated to the promotion of the destination.

In parallel, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rita Marques, the Chairman of Turismo de Portugal, Luís Araújo, and the Member of Turismo de Portugal, Filipe Silva, will travel to the market, where they will maintain an agenda of contacts with the various entities linked to the sector, from business associations to airlines, and also including several trade representatives.

The presence at the WTM complements a set of promotional actions that are being developed in this market, one of the main issuers of tourists to Portugal, responsible for 1.4 million guests, 6.1 million overnight stays and 2,252 million euros in revenue between January and August 2022, figures that are already very close to those achieved in 2019 (in fact, tourism revenue has already recorded an increase of 0.4%).

With a view to consolidating the recovery of activity and tourist flows from the United Kingdom, the actions planned for the coming months focus, in particular, on communication actions such as the #TimeToBe Advertising Campaign, exclusive on digital media and specific PR actions aimed at opinion makers and the specialised press. In addition, the focus on trade marketing will continue, with initiatives aimed at tour operators and British airlines, as well as the promotion of our main tourism products, and others that contribute to a good diversification of the portfolio of tourism experiences, including Wine Tourism, Gastronomy, Literary Tourism, Surf or Festivals.

The international promotion of Portugal, in line with the Reactivate Tourism. Build the Future Plan, thus pursues the goal set out in the 2027 Tourism Strategy of exceeding 27 MM€ in tourism revenue in 2027, in a sustainable manner, generating wealth and well-being, throughout the territory, all year round and focusing on the diversification of markets and segments.
